Stories Hero

Entrepreneurship is often associated with pitch competitions, startup launches, and major milestones. But behind every idea and every founder journey is something much deeper — the process of learning, building, adapting, and connecting with a community.

That is the foundation of Stories from LionCage.

Presented by the Great Valley LaunchBox at Penn State Great Valley and hosted by Kelli Offshack, Stories from LionCage was created as an extension of the Road to LionCage initiative — a growing series of entrepreneurial events, pitch competitions, networking opportunities, and ecosystem collaborations taking place throughout the year across Southeastern Pennsylvania.

The podcast expands the conversation beyond the stage, giving listeners a chance to hear directly from the founders, innovators, mentors, judges, and ecosystem leaders who help make the LionCage community possible.

Season One was released as a full season while the Road to LionCage series continued building momentum throughout the region. Now, with Season Two underway, it is the perfect time to look back at the conversations that helped establish the voice and mission of the series.

More Than a Pitch Competition

LionCage has evolved into much more than a single event.

Throughout the year, the Road to LionCage series brings entrepreneurs together through regional pitch competitions, educational programming, mentorship opportunities, networking, and ecosystem partnerships. These events create opportunities for innovators to share ideas, sharpen their storytelling, connect with advisors and judges, and become part of a larger entrepreneurial network.

The Road to LionCage and the annual LionCage Grand Finale are presented through a partnership between the Great Valley LaunchBox, the Brandywine LaunchBox, and the Ideas x Innovation Network (i2n), helping support entrepreneurs and innovators across Southeastern Pennsylvania.

The series builds toward the signature LionCage finale each November at Penn State Great Valley — a celebration of innovation, entrepreneurship, and the founders helping shape the future of the region.

But what happens between the events is just as important as what happens on stage.

That is where Stories from LionCage fits in.

The podcast was designed to continue those conversations throughout the year by highlighting the real stories behind entrepreneurship. Instead of focusing only on outcomes or competition results, the series explores the experiences behind the ideas — the challenges, pivots, lessons learned, and moments of growth that define the entrepreneurial journey.

Extending the LionCage Community

One of the most important goals of Stories from LionCage is to strengthen the sense of community surrounding the Road to LionCage initiative.

The podcast creates a space where founders, supporters, students, mentors, and community members can hear authentic conversations about innovation and entrepreneurship in a more relaxed and personal format. It captures the same collaborative energy that defines the LionCage events themselves while making those conversations accessible year-round.

The result is a podcast that feels less like a traditional business show and more like an ongoing extension of the entrepreneurial ecosystem.

Listeners gain insight into what drives founders to pursue new ideas, how innovators navigate uncertainty, and why community support matters so much in the startup world. The conversations highlight not only business development, but also resilience, creativity, leadership, and collaboration.

That emphasis reflects the broader mission of the Great Valley LaunchBox, whose mission is to help early-stage entrepreneurs “turn good ideas into great businesses” through mentorship, education, and community support.

Capturing the Human Side of Innovation

Season One focuses heavily on the human side of entrepreneurship.

Building a company is rarely a straight path. Entrepreneurs constantly face obstacles, uncertainty, evolving strategies, and difficult decisions. The podcast embraces those realities by creating conversations that are approachable, honest, and grounded in real experience.

Rather than presenting entrepreneurship as a polished success story, Stories from LionCage highlights the process behind the progress.

Across the season, listeners hear discussions about taking risks, learning through setbacks, building confidence, developing meaningful relationships, and turning ideas into sustainable businesses.

Those conversations are what make the series resonate with both experienced entrepreneurs and people just beginning to explore entrepreneurship for the first time.

Looking Ahead

As the Road to LionCage series continues to grow, Stories from LionCage continues growing alongside it.

New events, new founders, and new partnerships are helping shape the future of entrepreneurship across Southeastern Pennsylvania. The podcast provides a platform to continue sharing those stories while giving listeners a deeper understanding of the people and purpose behind the initiative.

And while the Road to LionCage journey ultimately leads to the signature LionCage finale each November at Penn State Great Valley, the podcast reminds listeners that entrepreneurship is about much more than a single competition.

It is about relationships.

It is about resilience.

It is about building something meaningful alongside a community willing to support innovation and help ideas move forward.

Season One captures that spirit in an authentic and engaging way, making it the perfect introduction to the Road to LionCage community and the entrepreneurial energy driving it forward.
